How to get to the U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Sonora.
The border in Nogales, AZ is about 60 minutes away from Tucson, AZ. You can park your car along the border, walk across, and then take a cab on the Mexcian side to the US consulate. The cost for this is about $6.00 to $10.00. You can also have the hotel front desk arrange for the taxi to meet you in the morning on the day of your appointment. Remember that if you take a cab on the US side to cross you into Mexico, it will cost you more than taking one on the Mexican side. You decide how you want to go about it. I suggest that you leave at least 1 hour prior to your appointment so you can get there with plenty of time. As soon as you arrive, you need to get with the security guards and show them your appointment confirmation. They will then assist you in getting in the proper line.
You must have the following documents ready when entering the US consulate:
DS Application Forms. These forms must be filled out correctly and both bar codes must be printed correctly.
Approval Notice/ I 20
Appointment Confirmation
US Visa Application Fee receipt. a.k.a. DD, Banamex payment
You must also not carry with you the following items:
Cell phones, cameras, USB drives, cd's, floppy disks, anything electronic or with a digital screen, cigarettes, lighters, matches, pocket knives, nail clippers, make-up for the ladies, gum, candy, mints, water, food, etc.
You must also have your belts in hand when going throught the security metal detectors. Just think of it as airport security when going in.
Your interview will probably last anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes depending on what you do, who you work for etc. It is important to have all your supporting documents and be prepared to explain your job title, type of work that you do, employer/ client information, etc.
You may be asked to return after lunch to pick up the visa. You can use this time to go for lunch or take a tour depending on what time they ask you to return.
As soon as you get your US visa check it to make sure everything is correct. The sooner you catch your mistake if any, the greater your chances are of getting it back again before they close. Otherwise they may ask you to return the following day. Once you determine that everything is correct, take a cab back to the border and walk across straight into the US Immigration office. You will then show your new US Visa and pay $6.00 for your new I 94 card.
As soon as you finish there you are free to go home.
