Mexican Visa vs. Mexican Immigration Registration

A Mexican Visa is obtained at the Mexican Consulate nearest you in the U.S.  It is best to apply for the multiple entry visa with at least one month of validity in case of any delays.  You can use this to travel throughout Mexico if needed.

M.A.S. Mexican Immigration Registration is available for clients who have appointments with the U.S. consulate in Matamoros, Tamaulipas ONLY and is obtained locally at the Mexican Immigration office in Matamoros.  It is a basic form, single entry document that allows you to enter through the city of Matamoros for the purpose of applying for a U.S. visa at the U.S. consulate.  This type of registration can not be changed once inside Mexico unless there is a visa denial.  You will not be allowed to pass the 22km mark, secondary checkpoint, unless you have a departure permit which allows you to leave the country of Mexico in the event of a visa denial at the U.S. consulate.  If you plan of visiting Mexico as a tourist, you will need to apply for the Mexican Visa.  If you have been arrested or convicted of any crimes in the U.S., you will need to apply for the Mexican Visa.  Please contact MAS immediately if you have been arrested or convicted of any crimes in the U.S. even if they have been dismissed and/or expunged by the court.
